In most cases, designs are built around specific needs.
Examples might include:
- Parts need to be redesigned to cut production costs.
- A tool is needed to access certain components.
- Parts need to be assembled or inspected.
- A product is needed to perform a certain function and/or meet a milspec.
From the overall spec, concepts are fleshed out into general working design. Product
requirements are solidified. Manufacturing methods are then evaluated based upon future
production quantities.
In some cases, such as one-off tool design, manufacture begins
immediately from, and sometimes concurrently with, the design stage. For
production items, working prototypes or first articles are often needed
before tooling and other commitments are made for quantity
production.
We at EC2, Inc. do this every day.
